Welcome all to the 2022 season!
We’re all very excited for what is set to be the most ‘normal’ season we’ve had in a couple of years, hopefully one littered with sun and success.
2021 had lots of highlights: our belated 150th anniversary match against the mighty MCC in particular and a smashing way to celebrate the club. Thank you again to all that made that happen so seamlessly. Whilst we enjoyed some rather iffy weather at times we were able to fit in fantastic Family Days, junior section awards evenings, and the Chairman’s XI v Treasurer’s XI without too much trouble. And of course we closed out the year with our annual club dinner — you can check out all the winners here and even all the past winners in our new SCC Hall of Fame.
Looking forward to 2022, and SCC is on the lookout for new faces! So, if you know anyone on the hunt for a club, fed up where they are, or could be tempted into the whites after a hiatus, then point them our way!
On to cricket itself, our two senior teams find themselves in familiar positions this year: our 1st XI remain firmly rooted in the KCVL’s premier league, Division 1, whilst our 2nd XI will be enjoying life down in the new geographically-remodelled Division 6B. Our junior cricket section continues to go from strength to strength under the watchful eye of Francis Booth. We currently boast a record number of All Star Cricketers (you can learn more about All Stars here) and a fantastic number of other Young Cricketers from U9 to U13. It’s truly a delight to see the Rec so full on a Saturday morning and we all look forward to see them progress with another summer of expert coaching and cricketing fun ahead of them.
This year also means no more Teamer or Mailchimp (hurrah, I hear you cheer!) Downloading the Spond app will be the easiest way to keep up, but you’ll get email notifications as well. Availability, team selection and reports will all be posted on Spond, but scorecards will continue to be published on PlayCricket.
You can download our Fixtures and Events card here or pick one up from the Pav when you’re in. In that card you’ll be able to see we have a few events planned for the year: President’s Day; Chairman’s Day; and even the return of the SCC Quiz Night.
