Your 2024 SCC Committee

The 2024 season is just round the corner, the AGM is behind us, and the 2024 committee has been confirmed. These fine gentlemen are the people responsible for the running of the cricket club, for better or worse (we like to think better!)

Get to know them here, and look out for some player profiles throughout the season to really see how they tick, which drink to buy them at the bar, and what they actually bring to the cricket field.

Mark Flemington

Chair

Mark stepped away from playing duties in 2023 after an illustrious Speldhurst career, and has taken up a new role as Chairman of the club. His ambitions are to help foster our growing junior cricket system and stimulate a love for the game that stretches across generations. And to work on his golf handicap.

Paul
Eames

President

After finally retiring from playing the great game, Paul has graciously accepted the role of President of the club. After approximately 300 years of playing cricket all around Kent, Paul knows everyone there is to know in the game. But if there’s one thing you need to know about Paul, it’s that he detests beer.

Ed
Wesson

Secretary

Our loyal party secretary returns for another year. Ed has helped steer the Speldhurst ship for nearly a decade now, despite protestations of his own incompetence. He spends most Saturdays leaning against the stumps with the wicketkeeping gloves on. No-one knows which is propping which up.

Francis
Booth

Treasurer and Head of Junior Cricket

Francis is what many describe as the backbone of Speldhurst Cricket Club. In a recent attempt to step away from the spotlight, Francis moved to Tunbridge Wells. But he still diligently compiles the financial reports for the senior section, and is responsible for the junior cricket section with the fantastic help of numerous parents and coaches. We just can’t get rid of him.

Ben
Harrison

Team Secretary

Now in his role as team sec, Happy (he hopes) now shoulders the responsibility for availability and selection of our senior cricket teams, keeping rogue captains in check, and retaining his crown of Best and Longest Hair in the Club. Really there’s no competition.

James Waters

Fixture Secretary

Stepping away from his long-standing role as team secretary, Muddy is now responsible for fixtures, including maintaining and expanding our Sunday friendly calendar. Rumour has it that 2024 is Muddy’s BazBall awakening. If his body lets him…

Ben
Brandt

1st XI Captain

Waltzing into a fifth year as 1st XI captain, is Ben Brandt. Ben has steered the 1s to survival in the county’s top village cricket league with aplomb, as well as being the club’s leading batsman for a number of years. Despite his public-facing role, he has yet to learn how to shave.

Chris
Pannell

2nd XI Captain

After being awarded 2nd XI player of the year in 2023, Calypso makes the popular switch to captain. He’ll be using an array of tactics to tame Div 6 oppositions this year, deploying our battalion of young bowlers and batters, and his dazzling good looks.

Tristan
Price

Group and Local Rep

A pillar of the community, Tristan also helps run the Recreation Ground committee, making him the perfect candidate to liaise between the club and the wider village. He is also most prompt on matchdays as he lives geographically closest to the pavilion. The same cannot be said for his son. He is useless.

Pat Green &
Ollie Crees

Social Secretaries

This role is simple: pick the nicest, least busy and most social members of the club. Unfortunately they were busy so we’re stuck with these two. When Ollie isn’t stuck at the gym and Pat isn’t stuck in a bunker, these two are responsible for all things fun. Yes, we’re not hopeful either.

Harry
Dunmall

KCVL League Rep

As well as bowling the heaviest ball in the league (nay, the country), Hodor’s role is liaison to the Kent Cricket Village League, and chief wearer of the bucket hat. His petition to get SCC-branded bucket hats (prototype pictured) has been repeatedly denied on grounds of stupidity.
